The Donegal Bay ( Irish Bá Dhun na nGall ) is a bay in the northwest of Ireland . Three counties border the bay: Donegal to the north, Leitrim and Sligo to the south. To the west the bay opens up to the Atlantic Ocean . The city of Donegal and the River Eske are at the head of the bay.
Donegal Bay is Ireland's largest bay. With the Slieve League (601 m) lies the highest cliff of Ulster (the sixth highest in Europe).
The bay offers an excellent surfing area, which derives its conditions from a combination of its shape and the prevailing winds here. Rossnowlagh and Bundoran are the main spots for surfers.
