The River Eske ( Irish An Iascaigh or Abhainn na hIascaí ), also Eask , is a short river in County Donegal in the northwest of the Republic of Ireland .
The river is only five kilometers long, but is known for its abundance of fish. The season runs from March 1st to September 30th; especially salmon , brown trout and char are caught.
The Eske begins at Lough Eske ( Loch Iascaigh ) in the southeast of the county and flows west through the Bluestack Mountains and through the city of Donegal to flow southwest of Donegal over Donegal Bay into the Atlantic . In Donegal is u. a. Donegal Castle, the former seat of the O'Donnell clan , on its course; near the mouth of the Eske in Donegal Bay there is another historical reminiscence with the remains of a Franciscan monastery from the 15th century.
