The former Forchheim Monastery was a monastery of the Franciscan Observants , later the Redemptorists in Forchheim in Bavaria in the Archdiocese of Bamberg . In 2014 it was converted into a residential complex.

history

The monastery , first consecrated to St. Gereon and later to St. Antonius of Padua , was founded in 1649 by the Franciscans of the Bavarian Order Province and the community of Forchheim with the help of Count Philipp von Pappenheim and the Prince-Bishop of Bamberg , initially a hospice , from 1687 it was a convent ; it was dissolved in 1830. The church and monastery were completely preserved. In 1919 Redemptorists moved into the buildings.

During excavations during the conversion to the residential complex, archaeologists uncovered traces of a trading center in the monastery courtyard that is older than the first documentary mention of Forchheim in 805.
