Ilmmünster Monastery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ilmmünster Monastery is a former collegiate monastery in Ilmmünster in Bavaria in the Freising diocese .

history

The St. Arsacius sacred monastery was 762 by Adalbert and Otker, members of Huosi founded a local noble family. The relics of Arsacius were brought from Rome to Ilmmünster by the first bishop Eio between 765 and 804 , roughly at the same time as those of St. Quirinus for the Tegernsee monastery . Initially a Benedictine monastery , it was a collegiate monastery since 1060. In 1493 the monastery was transferred to the Münchner Frauenstift . With the transfer of the relics of St. Arsacius to Munich, the lucrative pilgrimage that had existed up to that point was canceled. In the 18th century Ilmmünster was the residence of the Munich chapter official. In 1803 the goods were sold in the course of secularization .
