history

Koprzywnica Monastery was founded by Kazimierz Sprawiedliwy in 1178 as the twenty-sixth daughter of the Morimond Primary Abbey and was occupied in 1185 by the Convent from Morimond. The repeal took place in 1819 (according to other information already in 1791).

The complex was built from 1218 to 1238 by a Cistercian workshop, probably from Italy (Master Simon, see Sulejów Monastery ). The former library on the south arm of the church transept and the large sacristy date from around 1697. Of the cloister to the left of the church, the east wing with the late Romanesque ground floor has been preserved, the upper floor dates from the end of the 16th century. In it is the chapter house with a vault resting on two columns with capitals in relief. The former Abtshof is from the years 1615 to 1620.

The church is a pillar basilica with a four-bay nave and transept, arched arcades and ribbed vaults on pointed arches. Consoles, capitals and keystones are adorned with three-dimensional plant and braided ribbon decorations. Inside the church has Gothic wall paintings. The gables of the one-bay choir and the transept were raised in 1507. The furnishings are baroque. The southern side chapel was demolished in 1720. The church facade and the mighty crossing tower crowned with an eye-catching dome date from the late baroque era. The church has been a parish church since 1821.
