Monastery La Patrie was from 1880 to 1882, a Canadian monastery of Trappist monks in La Patrie (Quebec) , Le Haut-Saint-François , Estrie , Archdiocese of Sherbrooke .

history

Father Jérôme (Vertume) Péloquin (born in Saint-Hyacinthe ), who entered the Sainte-Justine monastery , after its closure in 1872, moved to the Melleray monastery and became a subprior there , was welcomed by his Canadian friend Jérôme-Adolphe Chicoyne (1844– 1910) encouraged the establishment of the Bethléem monastery in La Patrie in 1880 . He succeeded in attracting two confreres and successfully clearing, building and cultivating them together with them. However, when the abbot of Melleray personally came for a visit in 1882, he got the impression that the monastery was unsustainable and dissolved it. Péloquin returned to Melleray in 1883.
