Mühlheim Monastery (Osthofen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Mühlheim (Osthofen) monastery was a nunnery in Osthofen- Mühlheim, Alzey-Worms district in Rhineland-Palatinate from the 12th to the 14th centuries .

history

The nunnery Mühlheim (historically also: Mühlen , Mullen or Mulne ), dedicated to St. Margaret of Antioch , was founded in the 12th century (before 1167) and was first occupied by Augustinian women, then by Cistercian women . After the resignation of the local feudal lords, the Worms Bishop Eberhard I handed the monastery over to the Mühlheim-based Commandery of the Knights Templar . The Cistercian convent became one of the rare Templar convents. With the end of the Knights Templar in 1312, the monastery went to the Order of St. Johnover, but the nuns refused to take on the habit of the Johanniter. There seem to be no remains.
