Peter Pfister

Peter Pfister (* 1952 in Fürstenfeldbruck ) is a German Roman Catholic theologian , church historian , archival scholar , author and publicist, deacon . He was archive director and head of the archives of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising , the Archbishopric Archive of Munich and diocesan archivist of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and director of the diocesan library of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising .

Life

After graduating from high school in Fürstenfeldbruck in 1972, Pfister did military service (Air Force) from 1972 to 1973. From 1973 to 1978 he studied Catholic theology , German studies and history at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , where he graduated in 1978 with the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools and with a diploma in Catholic theology. From 1978 to 1980 a doctoral degree in Catholic theology with a focus on church history of the Middle Ages and modern times with Georg Schwaiger as well as liturgical science and dogmatics followed, with a doctorate at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Munich in 1980.

Archbishop's Archive Munich (former Carmelite Church)

Pfister worked from 1981 to 1993 as personal advisor to the Vicar General of the Archbishop of Munich and Freising and as archbishop notary . He was a close associate of the Vicars General Gerhard Gruber and Robert Simon . From 1993 to 1996 he worked as archivist at the archives of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and in 1996 passed the state examination for the higher archives service at the Bavarian Archive School, General Directorate of the Bavarian State Archives. In 1996 he became deputy head of the archives of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising. In 1998 Pfister was appointed archive director and head of the archives of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, the Archbishopric Munich and the registry of the Vicariate General, at the same time diocesan archivist of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, and in 2008 director of the diocesan library. His work in the registry ended with the establishment of a main department for records management as part of a structural reform of the Archbishop's Ordinariate in Munich on January 1, 2011.

The main focus of his archival work is the opening of the archbishop's legacy of Archbishop Michael Cardinal von Faulhaber for scientific research in 2002, the opening of Archbishop Julius Cardinal Döpfner's files for the Second Vatican Council and the expansion of archival public relations work.

In 1996 Pfister became Familiare , a lay member of the Cistercian order . In 1999 he was Archbishop Cardinal Friedrich Wetter for permanent deacon ordained of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and part-time for pastoral assistance to the Cathedral to Our Lady in Munich and at the former Cistercian abbey church Fürstenfeld in Fuerstenfeldbruck instructed.

Since 2003 he has been a lecturer at the Bavarian Archive School (General Directorate of the Bavarian State Archives) for the subject of Catholic Church Law. From 2008 to 2012 Peter Pfister was chairman of the conference of the diocesan archives of the ecclesiastical province of Munich and Freising , from 2010 to 2014 he was chairman of the Federal Conference of Catholic Church Archives in Germany.

Pfister retired as head of the archbishopric archives, archbishopric archives and diocesan library on July 1, 2018.

His journalistic activities focus on the history of the archbishopric, the history of the Cistercians, the history of the Bavarian church and the Munich Cathedral of Our Lady. He is editor of the series of writings of the archives of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and the diocesan library of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, exhibition catalogs, new series .

Peter Pfister is married and has two children.

Since 1965 he has been an active table tennis player in the table tennis department of the Fürstenfeldbruck sports club (since 2015 TuS Fürstenfeldbruck); 1970-2004 he was also a table tennis referee with numerous national and international appearances (World Championship 1989 in Dortmund, Olympic Summer Games 1996 in Atlanta ).
