Michelfeld Monastery (Lower Franconia)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The monastery Michelfeld (Lower Franconia) was a convent of the Premonstratensians in Michelfeld at Marktsteft in Bavaria in the diocese of Wuerzburg .

history

Between Mainbernheim and Marktsteft, a women's foundation for Premonstratensian women was founded in Michelfeld in 1245 , which was subordinate to the abbot of Oberzell Abbey. Maybe a kind of community already existed at this point, the “curia in Michelveth”. Perhaps unknown donors also established the community at this point. At first the settlement was probably subject to the Augustinian rule before the community was subordinated to the Premonstratensian order.

In 1261, the papal confirmation of the foundation of the monastery by Pope Alexander IV. Konrad von Hohenlohe bequeathed a small amount of money to the Michelfelder nuns in 1275. The monastery also held the right of patronage over the parish of Gaukönigshofen. In 1305 the nuns had to leave Michelfeld because of the deterioration of the monastic discipline and they moved to the monastery there in Tückelhausen . The resettlement happened without the consent of the General Chapter. No traces of Michelfeld Monastery have been found so far.
