Mittenheim Monastery Schleissheim
The Mittenheim Schleißheim Monastery is a former monastery of the Franciscan Reformates in Oberschleißheim in Bavaria in the diocese of Munich and Freising. It belonged to the Bavarian Franciscan Province ( Bavaria ).
history
The monastery, consecrated to the title of Sanctus Franciscus in Eremo , was founded in 1702 by Elector Maximilian II Emanuel of Bavaria.
The court architect Enrico Zuccalli based the construction work from 1717 onwards, presumably on the basic plan of the monastery church he had built in Ettal . In front of the three-wing complex was a church as a dome central building with a cross-oval floor plan with six chapels, which was consecrated in 1722. When his successor Joseph Effner built a high altar in 1735/37, he praised the size and appearance of the building.
In 1790, the electoral palace in Schleissheim received a court parish, which from then on was occupied by the Franciscans of Schleissheim. The monastery was then dissolved in 1802 in the course of secularization . The church was demolished in 1804. The monastery, on the other hand, was almost completely preserved and served as an economic property and refugee home.
