Nový Dvůr Monastery

The Nový Dvůr Monastery is a Trappist abbey in Okres Karlovy Vary , Czech Republic . It is located one and a half kilometers east of the Toužim village Dobrá Voda in the Tepler highlands on a plateau above the confluence of the Bezděkovský potok and Úterský potok .

history

Originally the monastery was a baroque farm, which was probably built in 1760 by Kilian Ignaz Dientzenhofer .

In 1999, monks from the French abbey of Sept-Fons bought the dilapidated property in the diocese of Pilsen with the help of other monasteries of the order. Construction work began in 2000, including the restoration of the old buildings and the construction of a church, and is under the direction of the British architect John Pawson . Even before its completion, the Nový Dvůr Monastery attracted attention for its modern, minimalist architecture.

On 24 September 2011, the Priory Novy Dvur by the general chapter of the Cistercians was the Strict Observance - Trappist - in Assisi as of 8 December 2011 Abbey charged. Samuel Laura's OCSO became the first abbot.
