The Olivet Monastery (Olivetum) is a former Cistercian monk abbey in the commune of Saint-Julien-sur-Cher in the Loir-et-Cher department, Center-Val de Loire region , in France . It is located about eleven kilometers southeast of Romorantin-Lanthenay on the left bank of the Cher River .
history
The monastery, founded by Étienne de Graçay in 1145 or 1146, was a subsidiary of the La Cour-Dieu monastery from the filiation of the Cîteaux monastery . The monastery was dissolved during the French Revolution .
Buildings and plant
Simple buildings, which form a kind of castle, have been preserved, with the Gothic chapter house, one yoke of which has been lost, with groin vaults that rest on two bundles of columns, as well as various pieces of equipment in the surrounding churches.
