Ottmarsheim Monastery
The Ottmarsheim monastery , formerly also Othmarsheim , was a Benedictine monastery and noble women's monastery in Ottmarsheim in Alsace in France . It is not to be confused with the Ottmarsheim Benedictine convent from the 19th to 21st centuries.
history
In 1030, Count Rudolf von Altenburg , a son of Lanzelin , founded the monastery with the name of Saint Otmar von St. Gallen . Pope Leo IX , who came from Alsace . consecrated the abbey church Ottmarsheim in 1049 in the name of Peter and Paul. However, like the Palatine Chapel in Aachen , which it is modeled on , it was originally a Marian shrine.
