The monastery Reuthin was a Dominican convent in Wildberg in Calw .

history

The monastery, founded by Burkhard IV von Hohenberg , was built from 1252 to 1284 as a Dominican convent. From 1313 there was a beguinage , and in 1470 a new beguinage was built.

Reuthin Monastery was the home monastery of the Counts of Hohenberg . Many of her daughters came to the monastery and donated their dowries. Among the approximately 240 nuns known by name are members of the Hohenberg family as well as members of the regional lower nobility and daughters from the honorable families of the neighboring cities up to Rottenburg . The monastery was economically very stable, which was an exception in the late Middle Ages.

The monastery was looted during the Peasants' War in 1525. Due to the Reformation in the Duchy of Württemberg it was dissolved during the tenure of Duke Ulrichs von Württemberg and fell to the Duchy of Württemberg . After 1535 the nuns refused to accept the Reformation creed. A comparison from 1559 made a long process of profanation possible. From 1570 the buildings functioned as a cloister master's office. In 1824 the church and main building were destroyed in a major fire.

Todays use

The Wildberg local museum is now located in the fruit box of the monastery complex. There is a lecture and exhibition room as well as a vaulted cellar for events. A police station is located in the former home of the Kastenknecht. The former camera office now serves as a music school and other cultural purposes.

The local history museum offers exhibits and information about the history of the former monastery. Other focal points are textile production and the cultural history of rural clothing, agriculture and rural handicrafts.

Sheep farm

The sheep played a major role and has been mentioned in the award of the right to pasture Wildberger denunciation in 1298 for the first time in documents. This is one of the first evidence of the sheep farming industry in southern Germany, when the monasteries began to promote wool production in the High Middle Ages. Until then, sheep were mainly kept for rural self-sufficiency. With the increasing economic importance of wool production in the 14th century, the monasteries and the landlords increasingly secured the shepherd's rights .
