Saint Prudentius ( San Prudencio ) was Bishop of Tarazona and is now the patron saint of the Basque province of Álava . The Augustinian monastery was founded next to his grave in 925 , which 25 years later became dependent on the monastery of San Martín de Albelda . In addition to the relics of St. Prudentius that of St. Funes, the former bishop of Calahorra , and it served as a burial place for some members of the Cameros family, the landlords (señores) of this area. The monastery joined the Cistercian order in 1162 as a subsidiary of the Sacramenia Monastery founded by the Monastery of L'Escaladieu and thus belonged to the filiation of the Morimond Primary Abbey .
