San Vito Monastery
San Vito Monastery was an Italian Trappist monastery in Piossasco near Turin from 1875 to 1898 .
history
In 1875, the French monastery of Lyon-Vaise in Italy founded the monastery of San Vito. The noblewoman Julie Astoin, who was born in Digne in 1831 and lived in Turin and assumed the name of Thérèse after entering Lyon-Vaise (1867), played a special role . With her financial help, the Villa Rabbi was bought in San Vito (today Possiasco) near Turin and (with her as superior) the new monastery was founded there in 1875. Prioress Thérèse ran the monastery until 1898. Then it was moved to Grottaferrata , where a monastery already existed ( Santa Maria di Grottaferrata ), and in 1957 to Vitorchiano monastery .
