The Sanctus Sergius Monastery is a former Cistercian abbey in Byblos (Gibelet, now Jbeil) in Lebanon .

history

Bishop Vassal von Byblos offered the abandoned Sergius Monastery to two monks from the Primary Abbey of La Ferté , Andreas and Giles, in 1231 and provided the donation with land, but transferred the foundation directly to the La Ferté monastery and later to the abbot of the Cîteaux monastery . In 1238 the General Chapter advised that the monks be withdrawn from Gibelet. An attempt to repopulate the monastery in 1241 is said to have failed. The monastery is said to have existed until 1268.
