The Theuley (Theolocus; Tulley) monastery is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Vars in the Haute-Saône department , Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region , in France , around 14 kilometers north of Gray .
history
The monastery was founded in 1130 by the lords of Vergy and was occupied by Cistercians from the Morimond primary abbey . The monastery that u. a. owned eight grangien , was looted in 1569 and burned down several times during the Thirty Years War . In 1656 it fell into the future . When it was dissolved during the French Revolution , it still had eight monks.
Buildings and plant
Part of the cellar from the 12th century has been preserved. There are also several outbuildings that have been converted into residential buildings. An altar from the monastery has found its way into the church of Vars, and that of Champlitte-et-le-Prélot contains several statues. Corresponding pieces of equipment can also be found in other churches in the area.
