The Club českých turistů , KČT for short (German Club of Czech Tourists ) is the largest and most important tourist association in the Czech Republic . It has over 40,000 members in all regions of the Czech Republic. The KČT is a member of the European Hiking Association (ERA).

history

It was founded on June 11, 1888. The first chairman was Vojtěch Náprstek . From 1889, the KČT marked hiking trails in the Czech-settled part of Bohemia and Moravia. The system of strip markings that still exists today was used from the start. In the same year, on the initiative of members of the KČT, the Družstvo pro výstavbu Petřínské rozhledny ( Cooperative for the Construction of the Petřín Lookout Tower ) was established, which in 1891 built the Petřín Lookout Tower in Prague, which is modeled on the Eiffel Tower in Paris. In 1893 the first observation tower built by the KČT was built on the Děd near Beroun . In 1919 the name was changed to Klub československých turistů (German Club of Czechoslovak Tourists ).

After the Communists came to power in Czechoslovakia, the KČT was banned in 1948. The assets were nationalized and the association dissolved. Most of the former seat of the KČT was transferred to the newly founded Československý svaz tělesné výchovy a sportu (ČSTV) in 1957.

After the Velvet Revolution in 1989, the KČT was re-established. Today he looks after over 40,000 km of hiking trails in the Czech Republic.
