The Klusensprung is a tributary of the Wupper in the Wuppertal district of Elberfeld , locality Kluse .

Location and description

The Klusensprung flows completely piped and only carries water when there is very heavy rainfall. Its masonry mouth is near the old Elberfeld train station halfway up the around 15 meter high retaining wall that supports the route of the Elberfeld – Dortmund railway across from the deeper flowing Wupper and the city area with the Wuppertal theater and the multiplex cinema .

A sign with the name of the body of water is attached to the retaining wall. A roughly ten meter long tunnel is located behind the approximately one meter large mouth hole.

From maps from the first third of the 19th century it can be seen that the Klusensprung was a natural surface watercourse until the construction of the railway line, the railway operating area on Dessauer Straße and the residential development in the local area. In 1863 it was mentioned in a description of the town that the Klusensprung was built over by the railway line.
