Servant (shipping)

The servant is a term used in sailing . It is about 120 cm long and a little over 20 cm thick square timber that is vertically attached to the side of a sailing ship. It is usually led through the deck planks into the deck below. It serves (perform) for scissors and documents from falling or pods . For this purpose it has a disk segment and a document header. In the case of one- and two-masted ships, the servant is usually placed horizontally and usually has two disc gatts.
