In Kobas guests are offered betel nuts as a welcome. At traditional weddings and other ceremonies in the village, gifts such as money, silver or gold coins are presented in it. In addition, offerings such as betel nuts, silver or gold coins are offered to the gods in religious ceremonies in Kobas. "Koba" is the name for the basket in Tetum , the name can vary in the different regions of East Timor, as can its appearance. In the municipality of Cova Lima , it sometimes takes the form of an uma lulik , the holy houses of the region.

The name of the East Timorese community Cova Lima is derived from "Koba". The region originally consisted of an alliance of five empires called Koba Lima . By corruption in Portuguese , “Koba” became “Cova”, which actually means “pit”.
