Name and story

The name of the house is derived from the Schengen castle administrator Johann Peter Koch. He and his family moved into the house in 1884. The last owner from the Koch family was Catharina Koch.

In 1966 the Kochhaus was sold to the Remerschen community. The house was extensively renovated in the mid-1990s.

The Kochhaus served as an exhibition space for an exhibition about Europe and is where the Schengen Peace Foundation (lux .: Schengen Friddensstëftung ) has its headquarters. Paintings by the painter Matt Lamb (1932–2012) were also exhibited. Matt Lamb was a co-founder of the Schengen Peace Foundation .

On May 9, 2015, after another complete renovation for 480,000 euros, the house was officially inaugurated as an event center. In the house there is now a small meeting room and a kitchen on the ground floor, offices on the first floor and a large meeting room for 80 to 100 people on the second floor under the roof lock. In order to improve access to the house for people with reduced mobility, a tower with stairs and an elevator was built next to the house.
