Special wooden spoon for risotto dishes

The wooden spoon (in Swiss German and trowel or wooden spoon called) is a kitchen utensil for stirring soups and other dishes to mix the ingredients and to avoid scorching or clumping during preparation. It is also used to absorb liquids and soft foods for the purpose of tasting. It consists of a flat bowl with a handle in different lengths to match the pot used . Often the wooden spoon has a tapered corner so that it is easier to get into the lower edge of the saucepan. The variant with a hole is also called a mixing spoon or perforated ladle .

The wooden spoons used to be made of wood (mostly maple ), today they are available in many shapes and colors, also made of plastic .

Sometimes a chef's hat and wooden spoon adorn the facade of a restaurant to indicate that hot food is available there. The large laundry , which used to be cooked in tub-sized buckets, was also turned over with a wooden spoon about four feet long, stirred and removed.
