Coherent radiation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As a coherent radiation (engl .: coherent radiation ) is known in the physical sciences , electromagnetic waves , the spatial and temporal respect spread a solid phase have relationship. Coherent radiation is produced by lasers , measles and synchrotrons .

The concept of coherent radiation can also be applied to particle flows such as B. an electron beam can be used, since the particles also have wave character, but not on individual particles, as these are represented by wave packets .

Above: large coherence length; Bottom: Short coherence length. There are phase jumps at the transitions

In practice, an electromagnetic wave is only coherent over a limited distance ( coherence length ).

For a quantum mechanical description see coherent state .
