Cabbage Postage Stamp Manual

The Kohl-Briefmarken-Handbuch or Kohl-Handbuch is a philatelic handbook , initially published by the Paul Kohl publishing house. It contains detailed information on the manufacture, issue and use of postage stamps in various postal areas and related background information. It is based on the "Large Catalog" by Paul Kohl and was gradually released in 40 partial deliveries.

Between 1923 and 1936 it was mainly written by Herbert Munk with five volumes and a total of 5335 pages. Munk was financially independent and devoted himself energetically to this work. The circulation was only 6,000 pieces and then rose to 10,000 pieces.

Paul Kohl's company passed to Rudolf Siegel, who went bankrupt in 1925. For this reason, the Association of Friends of the Kohl Postage Stamp Handbook was founded in 1925 , which from then on relocated the work. Alfred F. Lichtenstein acquired the copyright for the New York Collectors Club . The Royal Philatelic Society London bought the rights and published the manual in English.

For his contribution to the manual, Munk was honored with the Lindenberg Medal in 1925 , the Sieger Prize in 1930 and the Crawford Medal in 1936 .

Deliveries 19 to 25 across Great Britain and its territories were written by JB Seymour. Erich Stenger wrote the part for Bavaria . From 1938 to 1944, Hans von Rudolphi continued the work with two further volumes with the title “Handbuch der Briefmarkenkunde”. The “New Manual” working group continued the series with additional manuals. These are intended as a continuation of the then unfinished Kohl manual.
