Coal Railway Reichenau (Saxony)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The coal railway company Reichenau in Saxony was founded on April 30, 1921 by a mine owner and five manufacturers. It was located in what is now the Polish eastern part of the Zittau district . It only served the freight traffic between Reichenau (Bogatynia) and the brown coal mines near Seitendorf ( Zatonie ).

The mostly single-track line was four kilometers long and laid out in 750 mm narrow gauge . It only had one connection to the Zittau – Reichenau – Hermsdorf narrow-gauge railway, which was built in the same gauge . Three steam locomotives and 45 freight cars were used as operating resources.

The narrow-gauge railway Zittau – Hermsdorf was able to run for the last time on June 22, 1945 due to the new border. Later the Polish State Railways (PKP) took over the former coal railway along with the remainder of the line from Zittau. Passenger traffic was started in 1951 on the Turoszów Wąsk. – Bogatynia – Sieniawka line .

After 1957 Bogatynia was connected to Trzciniec Zgorzelecki on the Görlitz – Zittau railway line , which also touches Zatonie, by a standard-gauge railway line . Standard-gauge passenger traffic to Bogatynia was started in 1960, which ended operations on the former coal railway. On July 1, 1961, operations on the remnant between Sieniawka (Kleinschönau) and Bogatynia (Reichenau), which had recently been expanded from Bogatynia to Markocice (Markersdorf), finally ended.
