Markocice (German Markersdorf ) is a district of Bogatynia in Poland . The village connects to Bogatynia in the southeast and lies on both sides of the Miedzianka (Erlichtbach) in a valley that narrows to the Czech border near Heřmanice .

history

The first mention of Marquardtsdorf comes from the year 1396. The owners of the village in the Zittauer Weichbild were the Berka von Dubá auf Rohnau . After the destruction of Rohnau Castle by the Six Cities, it became the property of the Biebersteiners and has been documented as part of their Seidenberg rule since 1454 . From 1696 the Counts of Einsiedel became the owners of Markersdorf, which came to Reibersdorf when the rule was divided.

Markersdorf, which became Protestant after the Reformation, was parish after Reichenau . In 1825 a school house was built in the village, which soon proved to be too small and in 1892 a larger school building was inaugurated. In 1899 the customs house on the border with Bohemia was completed. Markersdorf belonged to the district administration Zittau , the court seat was in Reichenau.

On November 11, 1884, Markersdorf received a railway connection with the commissioning of the Zittau – Markersdorf narrow-gauge railway. Between 1899 and 1900 this narrow-gauge railway was continued to the Bohemian town of Hermsdorf , where passengers could change to the narrow-gauge railway Friedland – Hermsdorf and travel on to Friedland . The railway was not only used for passenger but also for freight. Textile factories settled in the lower village. This included the factories of Karl Bürger and the mechanical weaving mill Ernst Schwarzbach, who had relocated his company from Reichenau to Markersdorf in 1902. The population rose from 986 (1871) to 1132 (1910) and then declined again, so that 1032 people lived here in 1943.

After the end of the Second World War, Markersdorf became Polish and the narrow-gauge railway in Markocice was completely stopped.

The place consists largely of Upper Lusatian half-timbered houses . The club life is determined by the football club LKS Pogoń Markocice.
