Carina Stecher-Raich (born March 14, 1979 in Arzl im Pitztal ) is a former Austrian ski racer . Her specialty was the slalom . She is the sister of the ski racer Benjamin Raich .

Career

In training together as a teenager, Raich showed similar talent as her brother Benjamin. She graduated from the ski school in Stams , after winning the Austrian youth championship in slalom , she was accepted into the squad of the Austrian Ski Association in 1996 . In the winter of 1996/97 she was thrown back for the first time by an injury and could not contest any races for the entire season. After a fourth place in slalom at the Austrian championship in 1998 and a number of good placements in FIS races and at European Cup races , she made her debut in the World Cup in Sestriere in December 2000 . With 24th place she also got her first points.

Three months later she was ninth in the slalom at the 2001 World Championships in St. Anton . In November 2001 she finally achieved her only podium finish in the World Cup with third place in the Copper Mountain slalom . The last highlight of her career was taking part in the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , where she was eliminated in slalom after finishing 15th in the first run in the second run. After that, numerous breaks due to injuries hindered her athletic development. Finally, at the beginning of 2005, she announced her retirement from active ski racing.

Private

Carina Raich has been studying corporate management in the tourism and leisure industry at the Management Center Innsbruck since 2006 . Since June 7th, 2008 she is married to the Olympic champion in Nordic combined Mario Stecher . The two have two sons together.
