Kōichi Sugiyama ( Japanese 杉山 弘 一 , Sugiyama Kōichi ; born October 27, 1971 in Osaka Prefecture ) is a former Japanese football player .

Career

Sugiyama learned to play soccer on the school team at Takatsuki Minami High School and the university team at Osaka University of Commerce . He signed his first contract with Urawa Reds in 1994 . The club played in the highest league in the country, the J1 League . For the club he completed 106 first division games. In 1999 he moved to league rivals Tokyo Verdy . For the club he completed 63 first division games. In 2003 he moved to the second division Albirex Niigata . At the end of 2003 he ended his career as a soccer player.
