from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kola Bankole (* presumably 1964 in Nigeria ; † August 30, 1994 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a Nigerian asylum seeker who was killed on board a Lufthansa plane when he was deported by federal border guards . Bankole was to be deported to Lagos .

Federal border police officers tied Bankole to a flight seat when attempting to deport him. In addition, he was put on a chest strap and a self-made mouth gag and his arms were crossed. After being injected with psychopharmacological drugs, he suffocated. Bankole had heart disease. Neither the officers nor a doctor present gave Bankole any help. No resuscitation measures were taken after death either. Investigations against the four officers of the Federal Border Police who were present were discontinued.

The organization Pro Asyl unsuccessfully demanded the establishment of a parliamentary committee of inquiry to clarify the exact circumstances of death. Before the attempted deportation, four Lufthansa pilots refused to participate in a deportation.
