The Kolk 20-22 building is a listed building in the world cultural heritage of Lübeck's old town .

History of construction and ownership

The corner property Kolk 20/22 / Kleine Petersgrube 1–3 was first mentioned in 1294 as a built-up property. Until 1587 it was managed as a piece of land with today's property at Kleine Petersgrube 5. The complex was named To dem Kolke in 1334 after the owner at the time, Gerhard vom Kolke , who bought the property in 1327 and is still characteristic of the name.

The building with its brick stair gable today shows the exterior of the brick renaissance design , which in this case was shaped around 1600. The round arches of the gable windows are still Gothic. The beautiful portal of the house on Kolk Street is a later addition from the 17th century. The building was extensively redesigned in 1977 by the property company "Trave" as the redevelopment agency of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck. Inside, the upper floors were converted into student dormitories for the nearby music college in the Große Petersgrube. Since then, the ground floor and the first floor have accommodated the Lübeck puppet theater with its stage and around 100 seats in the auditorium.

The exterior of the building has been a listed building since 1967. Today the building belongs to the Possehl Foundation in Lübeck.

Today used as a puppet theater

The Lübeck Puppet Theater, founded by the puppeteer Fritz Fey senior , no longer has its own ensemble, but has been performed as a regular ensemble by the ensemble of the Kobalt Puppet Theater Lübeck, originally from Berlin, since 2006 . There are also guest performances by recognized German and international puppeteers. Together with the neighboring theater figure museum in Lübeck , the house forms one of the cultural experience points in Lübeck's old town.
