Small Petersgrube
The Kleine Petersgrube is a street in Lübeck's old town .
location
The 80 meter long Kleine Petersgrube is located in the southwestern part of the old town island, the Marien Quartier . It begins at the Kolk , below the Petrikirche , and runs almost westwards until it joins and ends in the street An der Obertrave .
history
The street is first mentioned in 1298 with the Latin name Platea Tankonis , the meaning of which is unclear. From 1407 the Low German form Tankenstrate is documented, which was last used in 1482. At the same time, an alternative name comes into use, which is first recorded in 1407 as Parva fossa sancti Petri (Little Alley of St. Peter ). In 1456 the name was Petersgrove , in 1476 it was clearly differentiated from the neighboring Große Petersgrube in Low German Lutke Petersgrove . Kleyne Petersgrouve is documented in 1582 . The current name has been officially established since 1852.
The Kleine Petersgrube was spared from destruction during the air raid on Lübeck on March 29, 1942 and still shows a closed street scene of historical buildings from the 16th to 19th centuries.
