On the Obertrave is a street in Lübeck's old town .

location

The approximately 720 meter long street An der Obertrave is located in the southwest of the old town island in the Marien Quartier . It runs as a promenade along the Trave .

The road begins at the Holstenbrücke at the junction of Holstenstraße and An der Untertrave . It then runs southwards, following the curves of the banks of the Trave. From the east, Pagönnienstraße , Kleine Petersgrube , Große Petersgrube , Depenau , Marlesgrube , Dankwartsgrube , Hartengrube , Effengrube and the Kleine Bauhof all flow into the street one after the other . The meeting with the small building yard not far from Lübeck Cathedral also marks the end of the Obertrave.

history

Today's street on the Obertrave was not regarded as a continuous street in earlier times and did not have a summarizing name. Only sections had their own names:

  • The section between Effengrube and Depenau was named Holzmarkt in 1593 , as the firewood transported by river boats was stored here.
  • For the area between the Petersgruben and the Holstenbrücke the name Soltenmarkede (salt market) is documented in 1578 , because the river ships with the Lüneburg salt moored at this point .
  • The place at the confluence of the small building yard is documented in 1290 as Apud arborem superiorem (At the upper water tree), because a floating barrier made of tree trunks barred the access to the harbor from the Trave.

It was not until 1884 that the street was combined under the officially established name, An der Obertrave , which is still valid today .

Buildings

The street An der Obertrave was not affected by the destruction of the air raid on March 29, 1942 and therefore still shows a largely closed picture of historical buildings.

Under conservation building are at the Obertrave 6 to 8, 11 to 16, no. 20 (gear houses in the passage in the clean box ), 23 to 25, 30,. 36, No. 37 (transition houses in Rehhagens transition ) to 39, 41 to 44 , No. 46 ( aisle houses in Stüwes Gang ) to 49 and houses 51 to 53.

The house number 19, the front building of Im Reinfeld and the historical town courtyard of the Reinfeld monastery , was demolished in 1938 and replaced by the bunker An der Obertrave , which was camouflaged behind quite elaborate external forms reminiscent of the previous building. The bunker, the reddish building between the white facades, still stands today.
