The Kolkata Film Festival takes place annually, always from November 10th to 17th, in the Indian city of Calcutta .

The film festival lasts seven days and attracts around 100,000 spectators. It doesn't have international competition.

The festival has been held annually since 1995. However, there was an international film festival in Kolkata as early as 1952, which dates back to the establishment of a film society in 1947. The city was also the first in India to have a permanent cinema in 1907 . Kolkata has always been one of the centers of the Indian film industry , especially for films in Bengali .

While the other two major film festivals in India, the International Film Festival of India (in Goa ) and the International Film Festival of Kerala , specialize in Asian, African and Latin American films, films from Europe and North America are also shown in Kolkata.

These three festivals are the only ones in India that are accredited by the international film producers association FIAPF .
