The St. Fidelis College is a public high school in the municipality of Stans .

history

The first reports of clergymen giving private lessons in Stans date from 1577. Five years later, the then Landammann, Knight Melchior Lussi, brought members of the Capuchin Order to Stans, who were later also responsible for the management of the college.

In 1749 the church council of the Stans parish opened a Latin school . From 1877, at the request of the canton, this was led by the Capuchins. The educational establishment was transformed into a private boarding high school. The school was given the current name St. Fidelis in 1895.

Until 1972 the college was a boys' school . In August 1988, the canton of Nidwalden took over the management of the school and closed the boarding school.
