Melchior Lussi
Melchior Lussi , also "Lussy" (* 1529 in Stans ; † November 14, 1606 ibid), was a Swiss statesman, Landammann of Nidwalden and council member as well as a colonel in foreign military service.
Life
In 1544 he learned the Italian language from his uncle Peter, the bailiff in Bellinzona , and then worked as an official interpreter for the bailiff of Locarno . He lived in Bellinzona in 1558 as governor. In 1560 he acquired the Winkelriedhaus in Stans . In 1561 he was elected Mayor of Nidwalden, 1562–1563 he was envoy of the Catholic places at the Council of Trent . In 1580 he was bailiff in Lugano . In 1582 he founded the Capuchin monastery in Stans. In 1583 he made a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and in 1590 to Santiago de Compostela .
Since 1583 he was a knight of the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem .
