Combined fleet

The combined fleet ( Japanese 聯合 艦隊 , Rengō Kantai ) refers to the part of the imperial Japanese naval forces that was deployed outside the coastal waters, similar to the German deep sea fleet .

history

The Combined Fleet was established on July 18, 1894, a week before the outbreak of the First Sino-Japanese War , and was disbanded a few months after its end (April 1895). In 1903, shortly before the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905) under Tōgō Heihachirō as commander in chief , she was successfully deployed there. In 1937 it was placed under the Imperial Headquarters . Yamamoto Isoroku was instrumental in expanding the fleet. On October 10, 1945, shortly after the end of the war, the fleet had to disband due to the surrender conditions .
