Katō Tomosaburō
Katō Tomosaburō ( Japanese 加藤 友 三郎 ; * April 1, 1861 ( traditionally : Bunkyū 1/2/22) in Hiroshima ; † August 24, 1923 ) was a Japanese politician and the 21st Prime Minister of Japan from June 12, 1922 to August 24, 1923. - 1920 Baron , 1923 Vice Count .
He attended naval college and graduated in the seventh year. In the Russo-Japanese War he served as Chief of Staff of the United Fleet alongside Admiral Tōgō Heihachirō on the warship Mikasa and helped to lead Japan to victory over the Russians in the naval battle of Tsushima .
In 1915 he was appointed admiral and served as Minister of the Navy in the cabinet of Ōkuma Shigenobu , Terauchi Masatake , Hara Takashi , and Takahashi Korekiyo . Under Hara and Takahashi he was Japan's representative at the Washington Naval Conference . When he returned to Japan, he was named Prime Minister in recognition of his achievement at the conference.
A short time later he fell ill with colon cancer and died after a year of its consequences. One day before his death, he was appointed fleet admiral ( gensui ) and posthumously vice count ( shishaku ). He also received the Order of Chrysanthemum posthumously .
