Shishaku Kawamura Kageaki ( Japanese 川村 景 明 ; * April 8, 1850 in Kagoshima , Satsuma , Japan ; † April 28, 1926 in Tokyo , Japanese Empire ) was a gensui of the Imperial Japanese Army .

Life

Kawamura was born in Kagoshima in the Satsuma fiefdom, today's Kagoshima Prefecture , in southern Japan. He gained his first war experience in 1864 at the age of 14 during the bombing of Kagoshima by a British fleet. He fought from 1868 to 1869 during the Boshin War in the course of the Meiji Restoration on the part of the imperial troops, initially with the rank of non-commissioned officer. During this conflict he was promoted to captain within a year . He then took part in the crackdown on uprisings during the Satsuma and Hagi rebellions . At the end of 1877 he reached the rank of major general .

During the First Sino-Japanese War , he was given command of a brigade of the Imperial Guard . In 1895 he was appointed Danshaku according to the Japanese nobility system of Kazoku .

At the beginning of the Russo-Japanese War , the 10th Division was subordinate to him, which brought the promotion to general with it, although some senior officers were passed over. In January 1905 he was appointed commander of the 5th Army and successfully took part in the Battle of Mukden with them.

After the war he was made shishaku , the Japanese equivalent of a vice count, and in 1915 promoted to gensui , the Japanese equivalent of a field marshal. At the end of his career he was chairman of the National Warrior Association of the Empire , a reserve and veteran association similar to the German Kyffhäuserbund . Kawamura died on April 28, 1926. His grave is in Aoyama Cemetery in Tokyo .
