Mayoral election in Lithuania 2017
The 2017 mayoral elections in Lithuania took place in the Jonava district and in the Šakiai district in accordance with the Local Election Act of the Republic of Lithuania on April 23, 2017 and May 7, 2017, two years after the 2015 mayoral election .
Starting position
The incumbent in Jonava was Mindaugas Sinkevičius ( LSPD ), who was able to prevail in a mayoral election in 2015 against all candidates in the first ballot, resigned in the Skvernelis cabinet because of the offer to become Lithuanian Minister of Economics . Eugenijus Sabutis (* 1975) has been acting mayor since December 2016 .
The incumbent in Šakiai was Juozas Bertašius , LVŽS , who resigned because of the criminal proceedings against him.
