The Communist Party of South Ossetia ( Russian Коммунистическая партия Республики Южная Осетия ; Ossetian Хуссар Ирыстоны Коммунистоны Коммунистоны is only one of the few international political parties in the South Ossetian republic . The current party leader is Stanislaw Kochiev , a former speaker of the South Ossetian parliament.

history

The party was founded in 1993 and on May 15 of the same year was accepted into the party alliance of the Union of Communist Parties of the successor states of the Soviet Union. In 1994, in the first parliamentary election since the country's de facto independence, the Communist Party of South Ossetia won a total of 19 of the 36 seats in parliament. In the 1999 presidential election, the KP-JUO and its top candidate Stanislaw Kotschijew achieved around 24% of the vote in the first ballot, and there was a runoff between Kochiev and Eduard Kokoity , in which Kochiev lost 40% of the vote.

In the 2004 parliamentary elections, the party won around 25% of the electorate. In the 2009 parliamentary elections , the party received 22.25 percent of the vote, just behind the South Ossetian People's Party . Since then, it has had eight seats in the South Ossetian Parliament . In the 2012 presidential election, the party's top candidate, Stanislaw Kotschijew, only received around 5.3% of the vote in the first ballot.
