After Debler's work became known beyond the boundaries of the imperial city, he was honored as a clerical councilor of Augsburg under Prince-Bishop Clemens von Augsburg . After the death of the Gmünder Stiftspropst and Augsburg Auxiliary Bishop Franz Xaver Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden , Debler also took over the office of Stiftspropst in 1787 .
