The Kona Bicycle Company is a bicycle manufacturer based in Ferndale ( Washington ), and Vancouver ( British Columbia ).

history

The company was founded in 1988 by Dan Gerhard, Jacob Heilbron and former MTB racer Joe Murray. The company name refers to the place Kailua-Kona in Hawaii .

Products

The company manufactures various types of wheels and sells them in 30 countries. In the field of mountain bikes, Kona specialized in downhill and freeride bikes and developed the Stinky and Stab series. The product range also includes Dirt -Bikes as Cowan , road bikes as the King Zing , Cyclocross wheels as Jake the Snake and touring bikes like the Kona Sutra and children's bikes like Makena . Since 2006 there has also been a women's line called Lisa . The company's existing cycling clothing line was expanded in 2008.
