Ferndale is a city in the northwest of the US state Washington . The village, which was officially founded on March 19, 1907, has 12,710 inhabitants (2014).

Ferndale has an area of 17.33 km². The city is located within Whatcom County at a height of 11 meters on the banks of the Nooksack River and on Interstate 5 . The border with the Canadian province of British Columbia is about 13 miles north and Bellingham , the administrative center of the county , is about 6 miles south of Ferndale.
