Conference of Adult Education in Austria

The Conference of Adult Education Austria (KEBÖ) is an independent forum of Austrian adult education associations, which are recognized according to the Adult Education Promotion Act  1973 ( Federal Law Gazette No. 171/1973 ). The associations represented in the conference are autonomous, non-profit-making and they provide continuous and planned educational work. The free working group works on common issues and projects and represents the interests externally. The chair alternates between the respective association chairmen on a rotating basis. The current chairman for the 2018-2020 period is Michael Sturm from the BFI Austria.

founding

The KEBÖ was founded in 1972 in the Federal Home for Adult Education in Strobl (now the Federal Institute for Adult Education, bifeb). The Federal Ministry for Education and the Arts, represented by Hans Altenhuber , head of the "Adult Education" department, played a key role in the establishment. The chairman of the Association of Austrian People's Libraries, Senate Councilor Rudolf Müller, was elected first chairman. "In order to recognize the importance of KEBÖ and to strengthen the cooperation between the Ministry of Education and adult education institutions, the recognized institutions throughout Austria were given a special position" in the Federal Act on the Promotion of Adult Education of March 21, 1973.

tasks

  • As a platform, the KEBÖ enables cooperation and exchange in educational policy and educational issues.
  • It represents the institutions' common interests externally. This includes the interest of the institutions in establishing Austrian adult education as part of the overall education system in education policy in order to document the growing importance of adult education and to demonstrate the responsibility of education policy.
  • It encourages expert opinions on problems in adult education and promotes basic research on Austrian adult education.
  • She participates in cooperative adult education projects and in the coordination and implementation.
