Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference (KELC; English: Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference , CELC) is an international community theologically conservative Lutheran churches based in Waukesha , Wisconsin.

With 24 members who represent around 500,000 believers, it is the smallest of the three Lutheran organizations that are active worldwide. The KELK was founded in 1993 with 13 Lutheran churches and has now grown to 24 members. Most recently, new churches were accepted into the conference in 2011. In the German-speaking area , the Evangelical Lutheran Free Church (approx. 1,300 church members) belongs to it . The largest member church of the KELK is the Evangelical Lutheran Wisconsin Synod (WELS) from the United States (approx. 385,000 church members). The WELS Pastor Daniel Koelpin is currently the President of the Confessional Evangelical Lutheran Conference.

It only accepts Lutheran churches as members that recognize the principles of the conference and that are not in fellowship with churches whose teaching or practice deviate from the Lutheran creed as understood by the conference. This concerns z. B. the communion fellowship .

In 2017, the full CELC conference took place in Germany again after a long break. The small town of Grimma in Saxony was chosen as the conference venue : from June 29 to July 2, 2017, the participants used the St. Augustin high school, which was built there in 1550, as a conference venue and hostel - they celebrated their final service in the neighboring monastery church of Grimma .
