Confirmation House (Gütersloh)
The confirmation house is a monument in the East Westphalian district town of Gütersloh . As the "former confirmation hall", it was placed under monument protection on August 25, 1988 and has the monument number A 184 on the list of architectural monuments in Gütersloh. The brick building is located in the core town of Gütersloh not far from the Apostle Church , the city's oldest church location, and is in Property of the Evangelical Church Community of Gütersloh.
The confirmation house was built in 1896/97 according to plans by the government building director Karl Siebold under church master Gottfried Ibrügger in neo-Gothic style. It has an arcade with groin vault and three slightly ogival openings with columns. The building behind the new building, which had previously been used as a confirmation house, was demolished in 1902.
Until 1986 the Evangelical Church Community taught its confirmands in the house. After that there were different uses. In 1972 the German-Greek Society had set up a library and a reading room. From 1988 to 1999 the Greek Orthodox community Heiliger Therapon used the confirmation house as a community center . From 1997 to 2015, a one-world shop was located in one area of the house .
In 2015, the Protestant parish had the house renovated for 175,000 euros. It serves as the seat of the Central Church Music u. a. as a rehearsal room for several choirs. For this purpose, a previously rented apartment on the upper floor was converted into common rooms.
