Kongressplatz is a once more common name for the suburban leisure space around the congress park and the congress pool , which was established in the 1920s in Vienna- Ottakring on the border with Hernals based on plans by Erich Franz Leischner .

The term "square" is to be understood here in the sense of a spacious, green recreational area that is surrounded by buildings (such as the monumental Sandleitenhof people's houses at the foot of the Gallitzinberg and the Wiedenhoferhof at Hernalser Frauenfeld ), and not in the sense of an inner-city agora .

The congress square has a shape that resembles that of a rowing boat and is divided into an east (outdoor pool) and a west (park) section. The children's outdoor pool was only integrated into the congress pool in 1987/8 and was long considered a separate part of the square. A gymnastics area between the park and the outdoor pool was originally planned, but was never realized.
