description

The bronze sculpture is 2.30 meters high and weighs 400 kg without the base. It cost 500,000 DM and was financed through the donation activities of the "Committee for the erection of the Adenauer monument at Neumarkt in Cologne", founded in 1987.

The artist whom the committee wanted to commission died before he received the commission. The contract was then given to Karl Wimmer from Munich , who began designing the work of art in 1991 and died in the same year. The statue without a head was completed by his student Gerd Weiland .

The former Lord Mayor of the City of Cologne, President of the Prussian State Council and Federal Chancellor is depicted in a larger than life coat that makes his head appear small. He is holding a hat in his right hand.
